Can Painted Rocks Change the World?
We think so. Teachers and children at Unity House’s A Child’s Place embrace a unique project.
Children will paint rocks that will be part of a project called, “Only One You”. The project is based on the children’s book, “Only One You” by author Linda Kranz. The book is the story of Adri, a tiny fish who is preparing to explore the giant ocean on his own. His parents prepare him for the journey by reminding him to “Always be on the lookout for a new friend,” and encourage the little fellow to find his own way, regardless of where the crowd is heading. This inspirational book emphasizes that we’re all unique: “There’s only one you in this great big world. Make it a better place.”
A Child’s Place chose the story to read in all classrooms to emphasize the uniqueness of each individual child and to represent how people come together as a community in school. Each of the sites for A Child’s Place will have the book “Only One You” by author Linda Kranz to share in each classroom. The children painted rocks at the SEFCU Children’s Carnival to tie into the story and the rocks will be on display in a special Rock Garden at each site. Parents are encouraged to visit the garden with their children and talk about the beautiful story.
