Have you seen young children react when you bring out the African Drums?
It’s joy, wonder and movement colliding to result in pure educational fun.
At least that’s what it looks like when drummers and dance instructors from the African American Cultural Center visit children in the Albany location of the Unity Sunshine Program. The children, mostly pre-schoolers at various learning levels, come together with an instructor from the nearby cultural center. The kid-friendly scene involves reading to the children a story about African-American culture, an activity related to the story and it all ends up in dance. Children in small groups enjoy a session of about 8 weeks before a new group of children experience the program. In this way, groups are kept small so the children can fully utilize the space with singing, dancing and doing activities related to the theme.
