August is National Make a Will Month

Create a Legacy to Help People in Need

According to studies, two thirds of Americans don’t yet have a will. They procrastinate on making estate planning. That’s where a month dedicated to the topic can help raise awareness and foster conversation.

Creating a will can offer peace of mind and it can be empowering. One aspect of estate planning is leaving a charitable gift to the non-profit of your choice, often called planned giving.  Like other charitable donations, support through an estate plan can take various forms:  a cash donation, gifts of stock, real estate, life insurance, or and IRA beneficiary designation.  These gifts can be a dollar amount, a percentage, or a specific asset. It’s wise to consult your financial advisor and/or estate planner.

For a conversation about how you can include a gift to Unity House in your estate plans, please reach out to Stefanie Bastien, Director of Development at (518) 274-2607 x4133.
