ERAP stands for Emergency Rental Assistance Program
ERAP is a program out of the NYS Office of Temporary Disability. You can find more details on their website.
The goal, as described on their site, is to “provide significant economic relief to help low and moderate-income households at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability by providing rental arrears, temporary rental assistance and utility arrears assistance.” The process opens up on June 1, 2021.
The program helps landlords and tenants who were impacted by COVID-19 and the economic fallout of the pandemic. Unity House and other area agencies help by serving as Navigators of the process. The decisions on any application are made by the program, not agencies like Unity House who help those asking for help.
The website is a great place to start, especially the FAQ section. If you have questions or would like help starting the process, either as a landlord or a tenant, please call Kathy at Unity House:
