Making a Difference
Each year, volunteers and groups help at Unity House. Among the sites where we rely on helpers, are our main kitchen, our food pantry, our personal care pantry, and in ReStyle, the Unity House store.
Leading up to Thanksgiving, volunteers often help in our food pantry, where we load in food from multiple sources. While Unity House’s walk-in sites will be closed in observance of Thanksgiving on both Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29, we offer Thanksgiving help for food insecure families. Of course, our community meals program will serve a full Thanksgiving meal on Wednesday, November 27, as they have done for more than 10 years. Historically, meals in-house on Thanksgiving were not well-attended, which is when we shifted our resources to helping families meet their needs at home, providing all the groceries needed for a Thanksgiving meal.
Walk-in Sites Closed on November 28th and 29th
Unity House’s sites in Troy, the Front Door community resource center at 2431 Sixth Avenue and the Kathryn Allen Center for Domestic Violence Services at 6 102nd Street will be closed in observance of Thanksgiving. The sites will be closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving Day as they have been in the past and the sites will remain closed on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
