Mary Jane Smith, one of three who founded Unity House in 1971, has been named a finalist for the Jefferson Awards.
The Jefferson Awards are a well respected recognition system honoring individuals who perform community and public service. The Jefferson Awards are presented at both the national and local levels. Mary Jane Smith will be honored locally at a recognition dinner on April 12th.
Mary Jane Smith was recognized for her lifetime of service to others and especially her commitment to improving our community through volunteer and community services. As the Jefferson Awards describe it, “The honorees are ordinary people who accomplish extraordinary things, often without the expectation of recognition. Every neighborhood has “unsung heroes,” volunteers who go above and beyond their expected duties. Together they make their neighborhoods and communities a better place to live.” Mary Jane Smith is definitely an ‘unsung hero’ and we are proud to see her recognized as such.
Unity House wishes to congratulate Mary Jane Smith and the other Jefferson medalists on this honor.
