Annual Toy Drive with a Twist
Helderberg Meadworks, with a tasting room in downtown Troy and a site in Esperance, NY, is again hosting a Zombie Prom to benefit survivors of domestic violence. It’s a well-timed event since October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Each year the Helderberg Meadworks, which specializes in making honey wines, hosts an event that invites people to dress up as Zombies. People are creative! “Admission” to this great day, with food and mead for sale, is a new toy. Collected toys and necessities go to Unity House’s Children’s Holiday Program, which fills the wants and needs of over 1,100 across Unity House sites. Among children served, about 500 are residing with a parent in our shelter for victims of domestic violence or are helped through the non-residential part of our programming.
Toys and Necessities
Our Children’s Holiday Program, formerly called adopt-a-child, provides new toys and necessities at holiday time. If you’d like to help, at the Zombie Prom or another time, consider a new toy or gift, for a child of any age. The program serves children ages zero through 17. For gift ideas, consult our online Wish Lists, from which you can ship direct to Unity House. Not into shopping? Consider donating gift cards to any big box store so we can do the shopping, or donate to our Children’s Holiday Fund.
