July is Disability Pride Month

Dedicating a month to Disability Pride creates awareness.

A month dedicated to Disability Pride is an opportunity to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community. It is in July because it marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), landmark legislation that broke down barriers to inclusion in society enacted in 1990.

People with disabilities deserve to live full, self-determined lives, just like everyone else. Yet discrimination persists for the 1 in 4 U.S. adults living with a disability.

Sharing stories and experiences shows what is possible when we have an inclusive mindset. Please join Unity House as we recognize Disability Pride Month.

NY has two major Disability Pride Events:

Buffalo
